Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric Fingerhut will speak at 5 p.m. today at Kent State Stark’s Fine Arts Theatre.

Fingerhut will discuss breaking the barriers between K-12 and higher education.

Fingerhut’s 10-year strategic plan for higher education outlines strategies to meet Gov. Ted Strickland’s goal of enrolling 230,000 more students while keeping graduates in the state and attracting more talent, according to the University System of Ohio Web site.

Fingerhut will talk to an audience of college faculty, students, local business and civic leaders and the general public, according to a press release.

He will also meet with constituents on campus, said Cynthia Williams, Kent State Stark’s public relations coordinator.

Williams said a group of non-traditional and traditional students plans to meet with Fingerhut and discuss student concerns prior to the event.

Special events coordinator Jenny Huth said the relationship between Kent State Stark and Stark State College of Technology makes both campuses a prime location to discuss Fingerhut’s strategic plan.

Kent State Stark and Stark State College of Technology are models of how schools within close proximity can cooperate, Huth said.
