Last chance to drop classes approaches
Students only have through Sunday to lighten workloads by withdrawing from classes.
Withdrawal from any or all courses goes through the tenth week of each semester, according to the university registrar’s Web site.
Jude Rule, associate director of the First Year Advising Center, said the “W” grade doesn’t affect grade point average, but decreasing credit hours can have an impact in other areas.
She said students need to notice whether dropping a course would bring them below full-time status, which is at least 12 credit hours. Rule said inadvertently decreasing to part-time status could affect financial aid, athletic eligibility and a student’s expected graduation date. Student medical insurance may require full-time status for coverage, she said.
Advisers won’t be on campus during the weekend to assist students.
“I would strongly encourage students to talk to their assigned advisers because after Friday, we’re not here,” she said.
Rule also said students should e-mail advisers if they can’t schedule a time for appointments in person.
She said any attempts to drop classes after Sunday require an exception to registration and approval by a dean.
To drop classes, students can log on to FlashLine, click the Student Tools tab, and select “Add or Drop Classes” from the Registration Tools menu.
