Flashes end fall season with 11th place finish

The start of the final Kent State men’s golf tournament was much like the start of the season.

Tough.

The men ended the first round of play in last place against 15 teams at the Bank of Tennessee at the Ridges tournament in Jonesborough, Tenn., scoring 22-over-par (310).

The men improved in the second round, shooting their second lowest round of the season with an even par 288. The team finished the weekend in 11th place scoring 893 (310-288-295) for the weekend.

Sophomore John Hahn led the team with 3-over-par for the weekend, shooting a 4-under-par 68 in the second round. Hahn placed 19th overall.

Sophomore Brett Cairns finished in a tie for 37th shooting an 8-over-par for the weekend. Cairns also enjoyed a round under par on the second day of play with a three-under 69.

Ludlow joined Hahn and Cairns in shooting an under par round Sunday scoring three-under 69. Junior David Ludlow placed 45th in the tournament.

Coastal Carolina took home first-place honors this weekend, with a team score of 869, led by redshirt senior Zack Byrd. Byrd finished in a three-way tied for second place with East Tennessee sophomore Rhys Enoch and Wake Forest senior Dustin Groves.

East Tennessee and Wake Forest finished second and third scoring 870 and 871 for the weekend.

This tournament concludes Kent State’s fall season. The Flashes will return to tournament play on Feb. 27 when they open their spring season at the Puerto Rico Classic.
