Pedestrian in intensive care after Monday accident

The pedestrian who was struck by a car Monday night on Summit Street near the Michael Schwartz Center is now in intensive care at Akron City Hospital.

Kent City Police say the victim is a female, most likely a Kent State student in her twenties.

The victim was hit by a vehicle traveling west to east on Summit Street between 7 and 7:30 p.m. when she was crossing the road.

Police have not been able to release a report about the incident because it is still under investigation. There were two witnesses: the driver of the vehicle and another pedestrian walking with the victim.

Captain Michelle Lee of the Kent City Police said the two witnesses have conflicting stories about the incident.

The police have not been in contact with the victim because of her medical condition.

“We want to be respectful of her and her family, so we have not been pressing the issue,” Lee said.

The witness walking with the victim was not harmed in any way. Lee said she was only “brushed” by the vehicle.
