The women’s golf team will look to build confidence and momentum tomorrow in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.

After last weekend’s fourth place finish in the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championship, Kent State coach Mike Morrow said there were a lot of positives from the tournament, but he wants the team to be more consistent this weekend.

“The tournament we finished last weekend went very well,” Morrow said. “We beat seven teams in the top 20.”

Though the Flashes beat several top 20 teams last weekend, they will face new competition they don’t normally see, Morrow said. The team has been preparing for the competition by taking a different approach at practices.

“If we know the course, then we try to pinpoint and simulate those types of shots (at practice),” Morrow said.

By simulating shots at practice, it gives each player a realistic outcome of how they will play in the real tournament, Morrow explained.

After last weekend’s success, Morrow said the lineup of juniors Sarah Bradley and Martina Gavier, and sophomores Mercedes Germino, Shamira Marshall and Mandi Morrow, will remain the same.

UNLV will host No. 15 Florida, No. 17 Arizona, No. 19 Louisville and No. 23 Washington.

The Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown concludes the Flashes’ fall season and will take place tomorrow at Angel Park Country Club.
