Student poet to read tonight

Kent State student and author Allen Hines will read from his new book of poems, “Screaming Freedom,” at 8 p.m. at Professors Pub.

The senior political science major, who has cerebral palsy, said the book explores ability and disability, among other themes.

“‘Screaming Freedom’ questions the possibility of achieving true freedom in a world with stark inequalities, worldwide warfare and hesitancy to touch someone else,” Hines wrote in an e-mail.

“Screaming Freedom” will be available for purchase and signing at the release party, where Hines will be joined by Kent poets Maj Ragain and Nikki Robinson. Musical guests Dystopiaq and General Ledger also will attend the reading.
