Track team to travel to South Bend for Meyo Invitational
The Kent State track and field teams travel to South Bend, Ind., this weekend to compete in the 23rd annual Meyo Invitational, a two-day event hosted by Notre Dame.
The Flashes are coming off a week where both the men’s and women’s team placed near the bottom at the Chippewa Invitational at Central Michigan.
Head coach Bill Lawson said he had more important objectives than winning in last week’s meet. Instead, he gave some athletes a rest while allowing the teams to become familiar with the facility where the conference indoor championships will be held later this month.
“We held a lot of kids out of their primary races,” Lawson said. “We wanted to get the kids experienced in that environment.”
Lawson said the goal for this meet is to have more athletes reach national qualifying marks.
“This week, we’re going to really roll,” Lawson said. “We’re going to lay down some rubber and have our best marks of the season.”
Kent State will be competing in the Meyo Invitational for the first time since 2007. The meet will start at 4 p.m. today and continue at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
