Keyboard series offers high quality performance
The eighth season of the Kent Keyboard Series returns on Sunday featuring Singapore performer and professor Albert Tiu.
Throughout the semester, the keyboard series features 14 student performers, Associate Professors of Piano Jerry Wong and Donna Lee and a Sunday’s guest performance by Tiu.
“It’s a big work in progress,” Lee said. “The goal of the series is to strive to offer students and the community a high quality level of piano performance.”
Anthony Lefebvre, a sophomore piano performance major, began preparing himself in early January for his performance.
“The piece I’m performing is very melodic and harmonically rich,” Lefebvre said. “It’s a really good mix of technique and display of musicianship.”
Each student performer will play one piece by Frederic Chopin said Lefebvre.
The series, which began in December, is celebrating the 200th anniversary of Polish composer Chopin’s birth.
In addition to Sunday’s performance, Tiu is holding a master class, which is free and open to the public, at 11 a.m. on the same date.
Each performance begins at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 or free for Kent State students, faculty and staff.
