The Supreme Court has granted a Texas inmate a last minute stay of execution, pending a request for DNA testing of evidence from his case.

Henry “Hank” Skinner, 47 has been on death row since he was convicted of killing of his live-in girlfriend and her two sons on New Year’s Eve, 1993.

According to CNN, Texas Governor Rick Perry has received more than 8,000 letters from advocates urging a stay.

State Senator Rodney Ellis said that “there are numerous problems with Mr. Skinner’s case that raise serious questions regarding the fairness of his trial and whether or not he is guilty.”

The evidence in question includes swabs and fingernail clippings from Skinner’s then girlfriend as well as hairs found on her body, hairs found on two knives, a dishtowel and a windbreaker.

Texting and driving can be a dangerous situation, but new legislation from the state seeks to make the roads a little safer.

On Wednesday, the Ohio House, in a vote of 85 to 12, passed legislation that would ban writing or reading text messaging while driving.

The ban will prohibit drivers from writing, sending or reading text messages or other communications from devices including cell phones, personal data assistants and computers.

The ban will exempt drivers who are reading or typing a phone number for the purpose of making a phone call, nor will it cover GPS devices. Violators of this ban will face misdemeanor charges and up to $150 in fines.

The legislation will now move the Ohio Senate.
