Penn State professor to speak at KSU

A Penn State professor who has crossed oceans to lecture will travel across state lines to speak at 7 p.m. today in Room 310 of the Student Center.

Penn State philosophy professor Robert Bernasconi said he is going to be talking about John Locke, the founder of our liberties, and how his work was contradicted by his support of African enslavement.

Michael Byron, Kent State associate professor of philosophy, said Locke’s defense of individual rights but ability to treat African slaves as slaves is good for students to try to work out and understand.

“He’s known to be a speaker who is at once entertaining and extremely challenging,” Byron said about Bernasconi. “Everyone who comes can expect to be engaged for the evening.”
