PRIDE! elects secretary, treasurer to executive board

PRIDE! Kent elected two new members to its executive board Thursday night.

Senior psychology major Kayla Maroney will serve as treasurer and senior English major Doug Fink will serve as secretary for the group.

Junior public relations and international relations major and allies chair for PRIDE! Cristina Mazzone said the two were elected by a 95 percent yes vote.

For Maroney, this is her second year in PRIDE!, and she said she has some new ideas for the group.

“I would really like to get a merchandise booth set up both to kind of get out some more gay pride things around campus, you know lots of rainbows everywhere — everyone loves those — and also as a fundraiser for PRIDE!,” Maroney said. “…In future years to come if we keep building on it I feel like it could be a really good thing.”

This will be Fink’s fifth year in PRIDE!. He has been coming off and on since he came to Kent. He served as programming director in Spring 2010. He said he hopes to leave accurate records behind for future PRIDE! members and boards.

“My goal is communication between the board and not only the general members but the general public,” Fink said.

Fink is happy about the amount of new membership.

“I think it’s really exciting to have new members because they come with new ideas,” Fink said.

Maroney said she is looking forward to the relationships she hopes to build this year.

“I just have a lot of friends and I see a lot of smiling faces that I would like to become friends with,” Maroney said.

Fink and Maroney bring the executive board to six members.
