Kent State University’s athletic department announced Tuesday afternoon that they will retire the number of former Golden Flashes’ quarterback Joshua Cribbs. Cribbs, who played for Kent State from 2001-2004, will be the fourth player in the history of Golden Flashes’ football to have his number retired.

The Browns have announced the signing of quarterback Brett Ratliff. Ratliff, who was let go by the team during final cuts, will back up rookie quarterback Colt McCoy, who is expected to make his NFL debut Sunday in Pittsburgh against the Steelers.

The Texas Rangers clinched their first-ever playoff series victory last night with a 5-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, Florida. Starting pitcher Cliff Lee led the way for the Rangers, as he allowed only one run and struck out 11 for the complete game victory, his second win of the postseason. The Rangers will take on the New York Yankees in American League Championship Series action starting Friday.

The NFL’s competition committee will review the rule that nullified an apparent game-winning touchdown catch by the Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson in week one of the regular season. The rule will not be reviewed and possibly changed until after the season’s conclusion, according to Atlanta Falcons’ president and co-chairman of the competition committee, Rich McKay.
