The University of Massachusetts is expected to become a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision and join the Mid-American Conference.

UMass is expected to play its home games at Gillette Stadium beginning in 2012. The Minutemen will play its first schedule as a full member of the MAC in 2013.

The MAC, along with UMass will host a press conference on Wednesday.

The Minutemen, who would become the 15th member of the MAC, are expected to remain a member of the Atlantic 10 in other sports.

Last season, the UMass football team finished with a 6-5 record and a 3-4 conference record.

The Minutemen have competed in three national championships as a Football Championship Subdivision school. They won the title in 2006.
