The NCAA initially ruled quarterback Cedric McCloud academically ineligible at the beginning of the 2011 football season. The freshman appealed the suspension, and last night head coach Darrell Hazell was told the suspension was lifted on McCloud.

“We’re absolutely happy to have him back,” Hazell said. “He’s a young player, but a good player.”

McCloud took an even amount of snaps with junior starting quarterback Spencer Keith in today’s practice in an attempt to bring McCloud back up to speed. Hazell said McCloud will return to his spot on the depth chart as the backup quarterback to Keith.

“(McCloud) has a strong arm and more advanced at knowing the system than (the other backups),” Hazell said. “There’s a much bigger comfort level because those are guys are so young and have no experience. Cedric doesn’t have experience, but he’s much further ahead.”

The only stats recorded on McCloud are his performance in Kent State’s 2011 Spring Game. The 6-foot-1-inch, 234-pound quarterback completed 15 of his 21 passes for 117 yards in the 2011 Spring Game. McCloud’s availability strengthens the Flashes depth chart at quarterback considerably.
