Date rape survivor tells her story at Kent State

Date rape survivor Katie Koestner was the first female to speak out nationally to share her experience. She will bring her story, titled “No-Yes” to Kent State Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Kiva.

“Koestner was raped as a freshman in college. Her story is both motivating and powerful,” said Amanda Roder, program coordinator for the Women’s Center.

The event will be free and is sponsored by the Center for Student Involvement, Residence Services, University Health Services, the Women’s Center and the Kent State University Sexual Assault Response Team.

Koestner will explain her tragedy to Kent State students and offer advice about being aware of sexual assault and tips for prevention. Extra credit will be offered for those professors interested in class attendance.

“The Department of Justice states that college-aged women are four times more likely to be sexually assaulted.” Roder said.
