Kent State (7-10) lost its fourth straight three-setter this season and fell to

Bowling Green (13-1) Saturday, Sept. 24, in the M.A.C. Center.

The Flashes dropped 13 errors and 24 kills in the match compared to the

Falcons? 18 errors and 46 kills.

“We don?t match up well with (Bowling Green),” said Kent State coach Glen

Conley after the Miami match Sept. 23. “(Bowling Green) has got some big-time

bangers on the outside right now, and we?re small on the outside. (Bowling Green) is a

legitimate team, and we?re going to have to pass well enough to stay in the match.”

Kent State encountered its ?rst loss to Bowling Green since 2009.

However, the team faced a game much like its previous match against Miami

Sept. 23. Senior outside hitter Maigan Larsen led the team with 12 kills, seven digs and

four errors. The amount of attack errors, bad sets and service errors led to the team?s

demise in the match.

The ?rst set put the team into a 1-0 de?cit. The Falcons commanded the match

with a 25-7 win. Kent State took the advantage of two Bowling Green attack errors to

produce points for the Flashes. Bowling Green won the ?rst set on three attack errors,

a service error, a bad set and a service ace.

Another downfall to Kent State?s game plan was Bowling Green?s strong outside

hitters. The set remained tied until Kent State took advantage of four attack errors. The

Falcons rallied back with ten straight points from seven kills, two service errors and an

attack error. Kent State forced kills by Larsen, junior middle back Kathy Krupa and

sophomore defensive specialist and libero Hannah Herc to end the match. The team

dropped the match in the end 25-22.

The third set shuf?ed the team with two immediate Bowling Green kills and an

attack error by Krupa. Larsen attempted a comeback for the team with six kills in the

set. Herc, Krupa and freshman setter and right-side hitter Jenny Buczek followed with

four more kills for the team.

“We?ve been practicing a lot with quick offense and serve receive,” said Buczek

after the Miami match on Friday.

The second half of the third set consisted of kills and errors by both teams. The Flashes attempted to revive the team?s energy with seven kills, two service aces and four Falcons? attack errors. However, the Falcons settled the score with eight kills, one service ace and a Kent State attack error.

Bowling Green ?nalized the score for the third set at 25-20 with a Falcons? kill.

The Flashes will play their third Mid-American Conference match at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, when they battle Ohio at the M.A.C. Center.
