Kent State basketball is back.

After reaching the National Invitational quarterfinals last season, the Kent State men’s basketball team will be on display for students and community members Friday at “MAC Madness.”

“MAC Madness” will begin at 8 p.m. Friday in the M.A.C. Center and will feature players signing autographs in the main lobby, followed by player introductions for the men’s and women’s team, as well as 3-point and dunk competitions. Admission for the event is free and the team is offering an incentive for fans to fill the M.A.C. center.

Fans will be able to register to compete in the 3-point contest against the players, the fan who brings the biggest group with them will win a luxury suite for a game this season.

Kent State coach Rob Senderoff, who was promoted to head coach of the men’s team following former coach Geno Ford’s departure, said the night’s events will allow the community to meet the players and get a feel for what the teams have to offer in 2011-12.

“Our team and Coach Lindsay’s team are really excited to be part of this event,” Senderoff said. “It’s a great opportunity for our fans to get to know the players in each program a little better. It’s going to be a great event and give fans an early glimpse of the excitement we expect to bring to every home game in the M.A.C. Center this season.”

Coming off one of the more successful seasons in Kent State basketball history, the men’s team returns plenty of skilled players across the hardwood. The defending regular season Mid-American Conference Champions feature defending MAC Player of the Year, senior forward Justin Greene.

The women’s team, led by Kent State coach Bob Lindsay, will be participating as well. Unlike the men’s team, Lindsay’s squad is lacking experience and is led by junior guard Tamzin Barroilhet.

After the graduation of leading scorers Jamilah Humes and Taisja Jones, the Flashes are looking to their relatively young players to fill the void.

The women’s team starts the season on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at Marshall, while the men’s team tips off on Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. at West Virginia.
