The Kent State Alumni Association formally honored Susan Taft, George Garrison and Gary Hanson as recipients of the 2011 Distinguished Teaching Award, Kent State’s most prestigious award it offers to faculty.

During a ceremony at the University Teaching Council Conference President’s Luncheon in the Kent Student Center Ballroom, the association recognized “extraordinary teaching in the classroom and a commitment to impacting the lives of students.”

The association announced the three earlier this month by surprising each winner’s classroom with balloons – in the middle of class.

The three winners discuss what winning the award means to them, their strengths as professors and their love of the subjects they teach.
