Why you should visit the Haymaker Farmers’ Market
There is more to explore and experience off of campus.
Reasons to check out the Haymaker Farmers’ Market:
1. Connect with the community downtown.
The people are awesome. It was so easy for me to strike up a conversation with the vendors and really learn things about the surrounding area. In the four semesters I’ve attended Kent State, I can’t believe I hadn’t gone sooner.
2. It’s fresh and organic!
The farmers pick the fruit and vegetables the previous night, just hours before you take it home with you! Wouldn’t you feel better knowing you got your produce from a local vendor than from genetically modified produce sold at Walmart? Let’s face it—their fruit isn’t even ripe when it’s picked!
3. Support the local economy at an affordable price.
Why spend $5 on a cup of soggy carrots at the market on campus when you can get your produce cheap and help support the community at the same time.
4. Wide variety of vendors.
Of course you can get your basic tomato, cucumber, pepper and lettuce, and they’re all delicious. But did you know that they also carry kale, cheese, meats, eggs, honey, homemade bread, baked goods, jellies and jams, prepared foods, arts and much more. They also have free live, local music!
5. Halloween is just around the corner!
Can’t make it to a pumpkin patch this year? Stop by the farmers’ market and pick out that pumpkin to carve.
Where is the Haymaker Farmers’ Market? Franklin Avenue in downtown Kent.
When? The market runs on Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting on the last Saturday in May to the last Saturday in October. Rain or shine.
