The Kent State Freethinkers will host its “Ask an Atheist” panel at 6 p.m. Friday in Room 315 of the Student Center. The panel’s goal is to answer questions from the community and dispel the stereotypes surrounding atheism.

The Freethinkers are a secular group on campus that meets for weekly discussion of religion and philosophy.

“We’re just planning an open forum where people can ask questions and have them honestly answered,” Freethinkers President Aaron Rockhold said. “We think people have a lot of misconceptions and misunderstandings and that’s really the goal of the panel is just to dispel those.”

The panel will consist of four volunteers who will answer questions from the audience and is open to everyone. Rockhold hopes this semester’s panel will draw a big turnout.

Rockhold said the purpose of “Ask an Atheist” is to present atheists as ordinary people by having the community talk to them.

“You most likely know an atheist whether you know they’re an atheist,” Rockhold said. “We’re just people like everybody else. We come from different backgrounds and have differing opinions on things.”
