Kent City Council to hear Summit Street redevelopment plan
After six years of planning, the proposed Summit Street redevelopment project will be heard before Kent City Council Wednesday.
Superintendent of Engineering and Deputy Service Director Jim Bowling has requested time to review the status of the preliminary engineering and design work.
“We are in the process where the city council will be reviewing the proposed alternate before we move forward with detailed design of the facility,” Bowling said.
City of Kent Senior Engineer Jon Giaquinto said proposed improvements to the Summit/Lincoln intersection include: realignment of the intersection to provide a smooth curve through the intersection, adding turn lanes, adding pedestrian buttons and signals and replacing the existing traffic signal with a new one.
Council action will be to authorize staff to proceed with a preferred design option and begin the detailed engineering and design work for that option.
“The main reason for the project is to improve safety for automobiles, pedestrians and bikes as well as reduce congestion,” Bowling said.
