ALEKS and the Math Emporium are seeing their second semester on Kent State’s campus. Results are in, and both are calculating success.

Chair of the Department of Mathematical Sciences Andrew Tonge says anywhere between 70 and 75 percent of the students are passing under the ALEKS system.

This is a nearly ten percent increase compared to the 60 to 65 percent of students passing under the Core Mathematics or fundamental courses.

Professor Donna Burroughs says one downfall of the emporium is getting students to raise their hands and ask for help. She thinks it’s important for students to ask questions.

“Don’t be afraid to raise your hands and, if not, go to the small study sessions and ask there,” Burroughs said. “But ask questions and go to class.”
