Various tenants will bring a prospected 200 jobs to the former Franklin Hotel in downtown Kent this November.

The historic hotel, located at the corner of Depeyster and Main streets, is now being transformed into Acorn Corner, a multi-use facility in downtown Kent. The facility — which is scheduled to be completed in mid-November — will house luxury apartments, Marathon Financial Services, the Kent Chamber of Commerce and an unknown retail tenant. Acorn Corner will also be the new home of Buffalo Wild Wings, currently located on Franklin Avenue.

Developer Ron Burbick said the National Register of Historic Places nominated the former hotel to be included on its list of buildings worthy of preservation. Earlier this month, the site received approximately $950,000 from state tax credits, $750,000 from federal tax credits and several funds from various community members.

“One of our tenants will be contributing over a million dollars. We have people in the community who together have contributed about $300,000 and [the Burbick Foundation has contributed] $1.5 million,” Burbick said. “That’s basically the funding we needed to complete the project.”

Burbick said the move into Acorn Corner will mean big changes for Buffalo Wild Wings.

“[Buffalo Wild Wings] will be tripling in size and doubling their employment,” Burbick said.

Burbick said he feels Acorn Corner will improve the environment of downtown Kent.

“The building has been empty for over 30 years, and it can now make downtown Kent more of a living, thriving location,” Burbick said. “Plus, it will bring a couple hundred jobs to the area.”
