“Mamma Mia!” tour arrives in Cleveland

The Broadway national tour of “Mamma Mia!” arrived at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square July 13.

The musical features the music of the ‘70s Swedish pop band ABBA and follows the lives of a young woman and her mother in the days before the young woman’s wedding.

The show is the last of Playhouse Square’s 2011-2012 Key Bank Broadway Series. Other Broadway shows that appeared at Playhouse this year were “La Cage Aux Folles,” “Hair” and “Memphis.”

“Northeast Ohio is so lucky to have national tours of shows — especially popular ones like ‘Mamma Mia!’ — come to Playhouse Square,” sophomore musical theatre major Kayla Hendry said. “It opens up a world of theatre to people that might not be able to travel to New York City but still want to enjoy quality, affordable shows.”

The show runs through July 22 with performances Tuesday through Sunday. Tickets may be purchased online or at the State Theater box office.
