OAR to join Kent State Centennial Campaign concert

Of A Revolution will be joining Sheryl Crow and Los Lonely Boys to perform for the Centennial Campaign Celebration concert Sept. 8 at Dix Stadium, director of donor services Valoree Vargo said.

The addition of OAR to the lineup will help to bring a younger crowd to the concert, as Sheryl Crow caters to an older crowd and Los Lonely Boys is liaison between the other two age groups, Vargo said.

The concert, hosted by the Kent State Foundation, is a celebration and a way to thank donors, students, alumni and community members for contributing to Campaign for Change, a philanthropy initiative to raise funds for Kent State student scholarships.

The Kent State Centennial Campaign has raised $265 million over five years, surpassing its goal of $250 million.

Any student who has contributed to the Campaign for Change has been automatically entered into the pool of scholarship contestants.

It is the biggest campaign that Kent State has ever done, and the concert will be the first held at Dix Stadium since the 1980s.

Food, concessions and vendors from downtown will be outside Dix Stadium from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. before the event.

Tickets are available at the M.A.C. Center. Prices for students are $20 for general admission and $30 for access to the field. Tickets for non-students will be $35 for general admission and $50 for chairback seats.

Vargo said she hopes to continue these kinds of initiatives and events for Kent State.

“If this is a success, hopefully it will not be the last concert at Dix Stadium,” she said.
