New faces, programming for Multicultural Center

The Student Multicultural Center, located in the second floor of the student center, has added two new staff members to further its programming.

Dr. Alfreda Brown, vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion, said the positions were created because the center was under-staffed.

“Every year, our numbers are getting larger and larger,” Brown said. “Now that we’re looking for retention beyond the second year, we want to ensure that students who come through the center will graduate with our support.”

Roxie Patton started as the program coordinator of the LGBTQ Center, located in the Student Multicultural Center. Trinidy Jeter, a former advisor for the school of architecture, was appointed program coordinator of the Student Multicultural Center. Both women started Aug. 1.

Patton said she plans to support the LGBTQ population through activities like Queer Voices, an art celebration Nov. 14 during which the community can come together to enjoy the creative arts.

She is also planning diversity discussion groups that will meet twice a month with a Kent State faculty or staff facilitator.
