Kent Student Center Programming will host the 31st annual Black Squirrel Festival 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. The festival will take place at Manchester Field and the Memorial Gardens, near the Kent Student Center.

The Black Squirrel Festival offers students a chance to learn about student organizations and explore different university departments.

“The Black Squirrel Festival is one of Kent State University’s most beloved and popular traditions,” Jennifer Gunnoe, interim associate director for the Center for Student Involvement, said.

“We’re excited to be a part of that tradition and continue the legacy of a very successful event,” she said.

Students will have the chance to get free merchandise and coupons from local vendors. Those who attend can also mingle with faculty and staff.

Gunnoe said the Black Squirrel Festival is a great opportunity for students who were unable to attend the university’s Blastoff event.

The festival will also include a variety of free live music, festival food, a free photo booth and caricature artists. Students can also watch The Avengers at Manchester Field at 11 p.m.

Students may receive 500 FLASHpoints for attending the festival, which can be redeemed for prizes or services available at www.FLASHperks.kent.edu

In the case of rain, the festival will be in the Kent Student Center Ballroom, and the movie will be moved to the Kiva.
