Field hockey team to compete three times in five days
Kent State’s Field Hockey team has a lot to look forward to this week with a 4-5 overall record.
The Flashes are playing three games this week. The team takes on its first opponent — the Ohio State Buckeyes – at 3 p.m. in Columbus.
The Buckeyes have an overall record of 4-3.
Head coach Kathleen Wiler said the team can’t worry about how big a university is or how elite its opponent may be.
“We strive to play our best in each and every game,” Wiler said.
Last season the Flashes lost 4-1 to The Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Flashes will be returning to Kent for another 3 p.m. game Friday at Murphy-Mellis Field against Ohio University.
The Bobcats will be the Golden Flashes’ first Mid-American Conference opponent of the season.
Wiler said the team is excited to open up conference playing on our own home field.
The Flashes lost twice against the Bobcats last season, but also won one game that required overtime to decide the winner.
Wiler said a focus on teamwork is required to defeat the team’s MAC rival.
“We are looking forward to a solid team effort and playing 70 minutes of good hockey,” Wiler said.
The University of Louisville is the final opponent of the three-game stretch and will be hosted at noon on the Murphy-Mellis Field Sunday. Louisville’s overall record is 5-3.
