The Golden Flashes defeated Lamar University and the University of Texas at San Antonio to take the team title at the UTSA Classic. Kent State shut out Lamar 3-0 and defeated host UTSA 4-1.

Junior forward Jaclyn Dutton started the weekend strong against Lamar with the fastest hat trick in team history, scoring in the 16th, 21st and 49th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Senn and senior Megan Repas assisted Dutton on her first goal of the night that started with a long kick from Senn. Stephanie Haugh, sophomore, and Sara Henderson, senior, assisted on Dutton’s last goal of the evening.

“I couldn’t have done it without my team,” Dutton said. “We played really hard and we worked well together as a team.”

Dutton was the first to score after a UTSA defender fouled her in the penalty box. That resulted in a red card for USTA and a penalty kick for the Golden Flashes in the 12th minute.

Head coach Rob Marinaro was pleased with the team’s overall performance.

“I thought it was a great performance defensively, we were fantastic and again our offense was great in finishing their opportunities,” Marinaro said.

Henderson also added a goal in the 61 minute with a header from a Haugh corner kick.

UTSA scored in 74 minute, but Dutton scored again with a header from a Repas cross from the right side, keeping the Flashes in a 3-goal lead in the 77 minute.

“I think it continues to build confidence the team now knows that we can handle teams defensively,” Marinaro said. “If we keep finishing our opportunities the way they have we can be successful.”

The Golden Flashes have their first home game Friday against Youngstown State at Zoeller Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
