Archer earns National Honors for football performance
Junior running back Dri Archer is making national waves following his impressive all-around performance in Saturday’s Kent State-Ball State game.
Archer was one of three college football players named to the Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll, which recognizes the most versatile players in the nation.
Each week, players who display outstanding single-game performances are added to the list. Fans can vote for the Paul Hornung Award finalists, and one player will be awarded the honor of best all-around player in college football at the end of the season.
Archer, who compiled an NCAA single-game high 350 all-purpose yards against Ball State, said he hadn’t heard of the award before but he said he felt honored to be selected for it.
“It’s always a good feeling to be added to something like that,” Archer said.
Archer returned four kickoffs for 174 yards Saturday, including a 99-yard touchdown return. He also added 72 rushing yards on eight carries and a career-high 104 receiving yards on three catches with two touchdowns.
Coach Darrell Hazell said Archer gives the Flashes a great amount of offensive firepower at every position he plays.
“Anytime he’s on the field, he gives us so much,” Hazell said. “Whether he’s returning kicks or he’s in the game as a running back or a receiver, he plays hard. I’m really happy for his success, and we’ve got to keep him going.”
Archer was also named the Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season.
