Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Midnight Release
Around 6 p.m. Monday, Walter Watts walked into the Kent GameStop and placed his order for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.” He received his ticket, got his group number and went back home, anxiously waiting midnight.
At midnight, Watts, junior computer science major, and a few of his friends drove back to GameStop and waited for their group’s number to be called. Because he already paid for the game and had the receipt from earlier, the process of getting it was quite easy for him.
“I was in group No. 3, and because of this I was in and out within four minutes,” Watts said.
When he went home, Watts ripped open the packaging of the game, put the disc into his Xbox and began to play. Watts played into the early morning, went to bed and than woke up early to play again.
“I like how the creators took the story line of the first ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ game and continued it onto the second one,” Watts said. “They keep adding onto the story so the stories connect, and follow one another.”
By a little after midnight, the line outside of GameStop to get “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2” wrapped around the outside of GameStop. People of all ages waited to get the game.
Junior finance major Eric Malek could not wait to start playing his new game once his roommate got back a little after midnight.
“My roommate was the one to get the game, but once we brought it home we just threw it in, and played it till around 5 a.m.,” Malek said. “Those five hours we played were epic.”
Malek said the creators of the game improved a lot from the first “Call of Duty: Black Ops.”
“I think they have done a pretty good job of taking a futuristic concept and making it just about as realistic as they possibly could which is what a lot of people look for,” Malek said.
Watts said he has gotten his girlfriend to play the game with him. When it comes down to the girlfriend or the game, he chooses the game.
“Oh, you don’t get in the way of the game, the game is first, you got to beat the story, she knows this already,” Watts said. “I beat the storyline and then my girlfriend beats it after me.”
Chelsea, a GameStop employee who preferred not to give her last name, said the store sold around 500 copies of the game in the first day.
“Because of the group system that we have, everything went quite smoothly,” Chelsea said. “If people got a group earlier in the night, with their receipt, they went to one of the side doors. If they got here at midnight they went to our other side door and waited on that line to purchase their copy of the game.”
“Call of Duty: Black Ops 2” is rated M for mature, 17+. It can be played on the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC.
