Volleyball senior night ends with loss to Bobcats

The Kent State volleyball concluded its 2012 home campaign Thursday night with a match against the Ohio University Bobcats at the M.A.C. Center. The Bobcats defeated the Flashes in three sets (22-25, 13-25, 23-25), which marks the second time that Ohio has knocked off Kent State this season.

With the loss, the Flashes overall record falls to 6-18, and it drops their Mid-American Conference record to 3-9.

“I think we played decent overall,” head coach Don Gromala said about his team’s effort. “At times there was a high level of volleyball being played by both sides. The difference was some of the easier points that we should’ve taken advantage of we lost.”

Kent State will have a quick turnaround, as they will hit the road and travel to Eastern Michigan. “We need some more production out of our outside hitters first and foremost,” Gromala stated about his team’s chances against Eastern Michigan. “The other thing we need to do is that we need to be able to win the long rallies.”

Thursday’s match being the last home game of the season, it was senior night for the Flashes. Kent State honored senior co-captain Kathy Krupa. Krupa recorded eight kills and five blocks Thursday.
