“School Of Rock” actor to visit Kent State
Actor Jack Black’s band, Tenacious D, will visit Kent State Nov. 2 to take students to the polls as a final effort to promote student involvement in the 2012 election.
With only five days left until Election Day, the Kent State College Democrats and the Ohio Democratic Party are hosting the event, which is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. in The Hub.
Students will be shuttled to the Portage County Board of Elections in Ravenna.
Bryan Staul, president of the Kent State College Democrats, said the band’s visit is another example of a long stream of celebrities — most notably Olivia Munn — who have come to Kent State over the course of the semester to increase enthusiasm about voting.
“It’s great to have artists come in and comedians come in and make light of a sometimes political situation,” Staul said. “We’re really excited.”
Evan Gildenblatt, executive director of Undergraduate Student Government, said though his group isn’t responsible for Black’s visit, he’s thrilled that they decided to come to Kent State.
“I’ll be out there in a personal capacity helping them to spread the message about early voting,” he said.
