Kent State University Police have taken a Kent State student into custody who threatened another student inside the Kent State University Museum Tuesday afternoon, according to Emily Vincent, director of university media relations.

Police charged Daniel J. Binekey, sophomore political science major, with menacing and carrying a concealed weapon.

Mohammed Almahmoud, economics grad student, said he was visiting the museum in Rockwell Hall with his sister when Binekey informed him they could not be there. Almahmoud said he and his sister exited the museum, and then re-entered. Binekey then claimed to be a security guard but would not show identification, Almahmoud said.

Binekey asked them to leave a second time and revealed a knife, Almahmoud said. Almahmoud then called the police.

According to Vincent, the investigation is still open, but there is no continuing threat to the university.

“He didn’t have the intention to hurt me, I don’t think, but he was enthusiastic to kick me out,” Almahmoud said. “He was unprofessional.”
