New traffic signals added to Loop road

New traffic signals were added to Kent State’s campus along Loop Road on both Thursday and Friday.

A traffic light was made operational Friday at the intersection of Loop Road and Rhodes Road, replacing stop signs near the Kent State Child Development Center and the University Edge student housing development.

“We’re trying to improve the vehicle and pedestrian traffic at that intersection because of the new University Edge apartments,” said Dean Tondiglia, associate director of public safety for the Kent State Police Department. “The intersection can get congested around 12 pm and 5 pm.”

In addition, two stop signs were installed Thursday at the intersection of Loop Road and Jackson Road to aid pedestrian activity crossing Loop Road to and from the University Oaks apartments, Tondiglia said.

“We’re always looking at traffic patterns, congestion and accidents,” Tondiglia said. “We use this information to then improve the safety for students, both pedestrians and those in vehicles, because that is one of our top priorities.”
