Sigma Sigma Sigma hosted its fifth annual ‘Tri-Sigma Night Live’ philanthropy event Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.

Tri-Sigma sisters, wearing black dresses with purple heels, started off the evening with a Sigma cheer.

“This is the first ever sold-out ‘Tri-Sigma Night Live’,” said Erin Anderson, senior art history major and member of the ‘Tri-Sigma Night Live’ committee. The crowd applauded.

Doors opened at 6:15 p.m. and the ballroom was sold out before the show started.

Greeks were seated in one section of the ballroom, while family and friends were seated in another. A slideshow of Sigma Sigma Sigma pictures, accompanied by music from the disc jockey booth, played while spectators waited for the show to begin. Purple and silver star-shaped balloons lined the stage.

Seventeen of Kent’s sororities and fraternities participated in the event. Teams performed humorous skits inspired by material from YouTube, “MADtv” or “Saturday Night Live” tailored to incorporate facts about Sigma Sigma Sigma.

Kappa Sigma received the award for first place, Alpha Xi Delta received first runner-up and Lambda Chi Alpha earned second runner-up.

Alpha Epsilon Pi also won an award for raising and turning in the most money of the participating chapters. The fraternity raised $475.10. The total amount raised Saturday was $9,006.18.

Sigma Sigma Sigma focuses its philanthropic efforts around the theme “Sigma Serves Children.” The sorority established the official Robbie Page Memorial following the death of a son of the sorority’s national president, according to the Kent chapter of Tri-Sigma’s website.

All money from ticket sales and monetary donations will benefit the Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation, which supports scholarships, the Robbie Page Memorial fund and play therapy programs for children who have been hospitalized.
