Alberto Morales was fatally shot by police early Saturday after he stabbed a Florida detective and escaped during a prison transfer in Grapevine, Texas. Grapevine police said Morales wouldn’t cooperate with police and threatened them with sharp sticks, causing them to act. Morales was sentenced to serve 30 years in prison for sexual assault.
Gunmen kidnapped seven foreign workers from Great Britain, Greece, Italy and Lebanon while they were working in northern Nigeria. The workers were staying at a camp for a construction company. The attack happened Saturday night in the town of Jama’are. Authorities are still looking for the attackers and the hostages.
A day after a bombing killed 81 people in a Pakistani city, Shiites from the country are planning a protest against the government Sunday. Saturday’s blast occurred in the market in Quetta and injured 160 people. The Shiites say their situation is getting worse since Pakistan is predominately Sunni Muslim. This is the second attack since January.
Car bombs exploded in shopping areas of a Shiite neighborhood in Baghdad, Iraq on Sunday. The blasts killed at least 37 and wounded more than 100. The Iraqi government is currently led by Shiites, and officials believe the attack was in protest of the government.
