Oscar-winning director, screenwriter and producer, Oliver Stone, and PBS NewsHour co-anchor Gwen Ifill will commemorate the 43rd anniversary of May 4 with the dedication of the May 4 Visitor’s Center. Stone and Ifill will also hold two May 4 centered discussions.

Stone, who directed films such as Platoon, JFK, Nixon and W., will hold a lecture on history in films entitled “History and Memory in Film” from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on May 4 in the University Auditorium at Cartwright Hall. Stone received a Bronze Star for Valor while serving in the U.S. Army Infantry in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. Many of his films are centered in 1960s history. His presentation will be followed by a reception in the Cartwright third-floor lobby.

Ifill, who is also a moderator and managing editor for PBS’ “Washington Week,” will serve as a moderator of a panel discussion called “Historical Significance of May 4 and Visitor’s Center” from 4 to 6 p.m. in University Auditorium.

Both events are free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

The May 4 Visitors Center is open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday and is located in Taylor Hall Room 101. Admission is free.
