Kent State University’s School of Library and Information Science has moved up in rank as a top school of its kind, according to the 2014 edition of the U.S News & World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools.”

Previously ranked at number 20, SLIS has risen to number 18 in the list of best graduate schools for library and information studies and its youth services department from number 13 to number 10.

According to a press release from the university, U.S News ranked 51 American Library Association accredited master’s degree programs in library and information studies amongst other concentrations.

Mary Anne Nichols, associate lecturer in library and information science, said the faculty and staff are excited about the “Best Graduate Schools” ranking, especially with the youth services program ranked as one the top 10 programs in the nation.

“We have a great curriculum product, great faculty, excellent online and face-to-face programs and a beautiful campus,” Nichols said. “It’s a big improvement for the school.”

SLIS, the only accredited Master of Library and Information Science degree program in Ohio, received news of its rank March 13, according to the press release.
