Sigma Nu hosts first ever Golf Your Heart Out
Sigma Nu raised more than $3,200 for the American Heart Association at its first ever Golf Your Heart Out philanthropy event Saturday at The Fairways at Twin Lakes in Kent.
Registration included 18 holes of play, a golf cart, lunch and a steak dinner. Thirteen teams registered and participated in the golfing event and 104 people attended the dinner after the event.
Sigma Nu sold raffle tickets for a 50/50 prize and for the prize raffles, which ranged from golf passes and a golf package valued at $400 to gift cards, beverages, shirts and more. The 50/50 winner, Sigma Nu alumnus John Baker, won $200 and donated the money back to the cause.
A corn hole tournament and a putt-putt contest were held at 3 p.m. for those not interested in golf.
Golfers finished around 5 p.m. and entered the restaurant area for their meal and guest speaker. Kaye Reiter, mother of a Sigma Nu alumnus, Summa Health System employee and American Heart Association volunteer, spoke about heart disease.
Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity was awarded a trophy for being the overall winner of the golf tournament with a final score of eight under.
“We worked hard, and I could not be more thankful to the participants, friends, families, and my brothers of Sigma Nu who helped make this event so successful,” said Joshua Cherok, junior aeronautics major and president of Sigma Nu.
