Take me out to the ball game

We promised to remind you when the Kent State baseball team starts hosting some home games, and the time is finally here. In case you weren’t around to catch the series with Ball State during spring break, the Flashes will take on Penn State at 5 p.m. on April 3.

You should care because this team is talented. Perhaps you remember Kent State was one of the final five schools in the College World Series last year. The baseball team has earned at least as much support as we lavish on the football and basketball teams, if not more.

Thankfully, the Flashes have recovered from an abysmal 1-9 start and are back to their winning ways. In retrospect, the season-opening skid is probably nothing to worry about; last year Kent State had a horrid 1-6 stretch near the end of March, but that didn’t stop the team from soaring through the NCAA Tournament just two months later.

The baseball team has home games on a variety of days, so check out the schedule at kentstatesports.com and find some games you’re available to attend. Penn State will be a formidable opponent, and we also recommend a weekend series with Central Michigan from May 3 to 5, a rematch of last season’s MAC Tournament championship game.

If you’ve never been to a Kent State baseball game before, Schoonover Stadium is located in the Allerton Sports Complex, on the south end of campus behind the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. PARTA’s Allerton route can get you there and back.

Admission is free for all Kent State employees and students (bring your FlashCard), and parking is free for everyone, so don’t worry about needing money unless you’re buying some peanuts and Cracker Jacks. See you there!
