A Georgia gunman who lured firefighters to his home with a false emergency call, then held four of them hostage for hours, planned the kidnapping for weeks. Authorities said 55-year-old Lauren Brown was heavily armed with more than a half-dozen guns in his house. Brown called 911 and said he was suffering from chest pains when five firefighters responded to the call. SWAT on the scene killed Brown after negotiations failed and the gunman opened fire on the police. (read full story here)

Officials say the student accused of stabbing more than a dozen people at Lone Star Community College in Texas told police that he fantasized about cannibalism and cutting off people’s faces and wearing them as masks. The suspect, Dylan Quick, told an investigator Thursday he previously researched mass stabbings on his home computer. Police said Quick had sharpened other objects to use as weapons. Quick is charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

A Los Angeles man who intentionally sawed his arms to the bone in a Home Depot in California is hospitalized and in critical condition on Thursday while police tried to determine what led to his actions. The man’s name is not being released. He had surgery and remains in intensive care.
