Four Kent State departments moved in May to accommodate upcoming campus construction.

The Division of Human Resources, which was split between the Terrace Annex and Wright Hall, moved to Heer Hall. Research Planning and Institutional Effectiveness, previously located in the Lake-Olson Center, also moved to Heer Hall along with Academic Personnel, which was located in a renovated house on Willow Street. The Office of Continuing and Distance Education moved from the Schwartz Center to the Lincoln Building.

“It’s a nice, bright building,” said Lynn Heller, manager of academic personnel, of Heer Hall. “We have a very nice space over here.”

Heller said the move was quick. Employees packed their things on a Thursday, movers came on Friday, and they had to unpack immediately to keep business rolling Monday morning.

“We didn’t have much downtime,” Heller said, but added that the move went smoothly.

These departmental relocations are part of Kent’s Foundations of Excellence: Building the Future initiative. While Lincoln Hall is used as a transition space, Heer Hall — a remodeled dormitory — will be recognized as a Gold Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) building, according to the university’s website.
