CBS and cable provider Time Warner ended their payment dispute Monday. The companies expected service to return to millions of homes Monday night. CBS and channels it owns, such as Showtime, have been blacked out since Aug. 2 for viewers with Time Warner cable only. Terms of the agreement, which would solve the issue at hand of how much Time Warner would pay for CBS programming.

Diana Nyad became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the help of a shark cage on Monday. Nyad, 64, completed the 53-hour journey on her fifth attempt of the 110-mile swim, but she developed dehydration, sunburn and swollen lips. She was, however, checked out at a medical center and declared essentially healthy.

Verizon Wireless bought out the 45 percent share in the company that had been owned by British carrier Vodafone on Monday. This means Verizon now owns its business outright. The deal gave Vodafone $130 billion, which makes it the second-largest acquisition deal on record and gives Vodafone the money to continue its expansion in Europe.
