The women’s volleyball team’s record fell to 1-5 after losing all three games at the Fullerton Classic over the weekend.

The Flashes opened the weekend with a loss to host Cal St. Fullerton on Friday in three sets (20-25, 10-25, 19-25). Kent State posted season-low marks in kills (27) and points (33) in the loss to the Titans, who finished the weekend with victories in all three of their games.

Similar to last weekend’s Indiana Invitational, the Flashes’ play got better as the weekend went on. In their second match against Gardner-Webb Saturday, the Flashes posted strong numbers with 51 kills, 39 digs, and 61 points, but found themselves at the losing end of a four-set match.

The strong play continued against William & Mary, where the team lost a heartbreaker in five sets (20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 12-15). The Flashes recorded the most digs in a single match since 2004 after tallying 104 in the five-set match. Leading the way in the backline for the Flashes was Junior Kaylee Koller who totaled 24 digs, setting a new career high.

The bright spot of the disappointing tournament was freshman Bianca Cifaldi, who was named to the all-tournament team after totaling 15 digs, five kills and three blocks over the three games.

The Flashes will look to bounce back when they travel to Huntington, West Virginia for the Thunder Invitational next weekend.
