Volleyball goes undefeated at Flashes Classic
Kent State volleyball won every game this weekend in their home opener, the Golden Flashes Classic.
The Flashes opened the weekend with a three-game sweep of Binghamton on Friday night, which included some of the team’s best plays this season. Sophomore Kelly Hutchison led the way for Kent State with 12 kills in the three sets, while senior captain Hannah Herc led the defense with 17 digs.
The strong play from the team would only continue throughout the weekend as the team went on to defeat the Eastern Illinois Panthers and Illinois-Chicago Flames, each match ending with the Flashes on top; three sets to one.
Herc earned her 1,009th dig of her Kent State career, a highlight of the Flashes’ weekend. She currently stands at ninth on the school’s all-time digs leaderboard.
Herc was named tournament MVP of the tournament and top defensive player and a spot on the all-tournament team. She was joined by fellow teammates Aleksandra Nowak and Liz Reikow.
Kent State (6-6) has already matched the number of wins they had at this point last season, and they will look to increase that number when they square off at Akron this Friday at 7 p.m.
