Field hockey team on the road for two weekend games
After a five-game home stand, the Kent State field hockey team will look to get back on track when it travels to Lock Haven, Pa. for a pair of road matches against St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday and Lock Haven on Sunday.
The Flashes (4-5) have lost three straight games, including back-to-back losses to Big Ten Conference challengers Iowa and Ohio State. They will be playing on the road for the first time since Sept. 8.
Kent State kept its game against Ohio State last Tuesday close but ultimately fell 4-3 to the Buckeyes, who scored the go-ahead goal at the 54-minute mark of the game.
The Red Flash come into the game against the Flashes with a 2-3 overall record following a loss to Massachusetts Lowell last Sunday. They have lost three of their last four contests.
The Eagles, who will be hosting the games on their campus this weekend, have compiled a record of 6-2 so far this season and are winners of three straight games. Lock Haven earned a 4-2 victory last Sunday against Robert Morris, a team the Flashes defeated in a preseason scrimmage by a score of 9-6.
Senior Rebecca Lee and junior Julia Hofmann lead the Flashes and all Mid-American Conference teams in total shots with 43. Hofmann also tops the MAC in goals, points and assists this season.
Lee and junior Hannah Faulkner are tied for third in the MAC in points with 11 apiece.
Saturday’s game between Kent State and St. Francis will begin at 2:30 p.m., while Sunday’s game against Lock Haven will start at 1 p.m.
