Students can learn about Cleveland’s human-trafficking issue at 9 p.m. Monday in room 117 of the Michael Schwartz Center.

The event titled “Human Trafficking: Overcoming Sex Slavery in Cleveland,” is free and open to the public. The Catholic Student Association will sponsor the event with guest speaker Sister Cecilia Liberatore.

Sr. Cecilia works with two organizations based in Cleveland: the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking and Renee Jones Empowerment Center.

Kayla Titko, president of the Catholic Student Association and junior music education major, said Sr. Cecilia works with victims of human trafficking in Cleveland.

“She will tell us what human trafficking is, what we can do to stop it, and what is being done to help the victims,” Titko said.

Titko said this event will help to raise awareness about human trafficking.

“It is a modern day form of slavery,” Titko said. “People may think that this is only a problem in other countries, but it is a serious issue in the United States, including Cleveland, Ohio.”
