Thompson, Madeira earn Player of the Week Honors
The Kent State field hockey team clinched at least a share of the Mid-American Conference regular-season title last weekend, and two players have been recognized for their efforts in the Flashes’ last game.
The MAC offices Tuesday named freshman midfielder Madison Thompson Offensive Player of the Week and sophomore forward Alexis Madeira Defensive Player of the Week following the Flashes’ 3-1 win against the Miami RedHawks on Sunday.
Thompson scored the go-ahead goal at the 58:46 mark of the second half against Miami, her fifth goal of the regular season. She is fifth on the team with 13 total points this season, including seven points against conference opponents.
Madeira and the Kent State defense played one of their best matches of the season Sunday, only allowing three shots-on-goal from the RedHawks, who are ranked second in the conference in scoring average. In the Flashes’ last four MAC games, Madeira has played the full 70 minutes in each.
Kent State (8-8, 4-0 MAC) will face the Ohio Bobcats in the conference finale at 1 p.m. Saturday before finishing the regular season against Louisville on Nov. 3.
