PHSA volunteers with Habitat for Humanity

The College of Public Health’s student organization Public Health Student Alliance, or PHSA, is hosting a volunteer opportunity for Habitat for Humanity open to all Kent State students.

Members of PHSA and student volunteers will work on building homes Saturday in Twinsburg for the Summit County Habitat for Humanity.

“We want students on campus to come out with us to help out and volunteer around the community,” said Asti Ambartsumanian, executive member of the public relations committee for PHSA.

Ambartsumanian is a junior public health major and has been a member of PHSA since her sophomore year. She said she and the other board members to organize volunteer activities around the community.

This is PHSA’s first time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

PHSA will be volunteering at many different events throughout the semester in the Cleveland, Akron and Kent areas. Some events planned for the semester include Relay for Life, the Art for Cancer Silent Auction and Public Health Week.

Junior public health major Joy Yala said PHSA enables public health students to come together and make a difference within the Kent community.

“By volunteering, one is able to build relationships with people in the community that may be beneficial in the future,” she said. “Volunteering is important because it brings an individual closer to the community that they live in.”
